Totally captivated in 2007 by the live camera feed of the Hornby Island nesting Bald Eagles in B.C., I was drawn into birding and have never looked back. Thus begins my account of what I'm fortunate enough to discover each day and perhaps capture with my camera.

Sunrise and Sushi Sessions

Another hohum cottage sunrise on Saturday, August 20th looked like this....

...and morphed into this twenty minutes later:

On the birding front, an adult Osprey peacefully enjoyed its Catch of The Day...

...but not for long, as an American Crow wanted in on the action at the sushi bar:

...but the Osprey wasn't going to give up its meal anytime soon. It had worked too hard hunting for its meal, so off it went, with any leftover fish in its talons:

A few days later, one of the baby young Hooded Mergansers was in its usual spot:

The dynamics of the Osprey nest had changed since both babies had fledged, and there was no longer any guarantee to see them, but on Monday "Skinny Legs" was there:

Dad was still doing his quickie food drops to the nest...

...and baby continued gagging on them:

But now the baby was able to do take-out, grasping the meal in its talons...

...and flying out of the nest to a tree across the road:

Twenty minutes later in the same tree, it's still just holding onto the fish as I silently prayed it wouldn't give me a pooparazzi photo opp through my car window:
