There's nothing like a snowy week-end inside reflecting upon my final Snowy Owl and falcon sightings for 2014.
Tessa and I spent forty minutes with our first Snowy Owl that was easily seen on a metal post:
Soon a meticulous preening session began:
It occasionally stopped to attempt a pellet regurgitation...
...then returned to its preening session:
Its right ear tuft could be seen here when it raised its head:
Another failed regurgitation attempt:
The preening session continued...
...and it began to work on some specific feathers:
On another break?
It was getting ready to go in more ways than one :
To the skies!
We continued on our way and enjoyed a colourful male American Kestrel:
The next and ultimately our last Snowy Owl for the year was seen a bit later:
What a great way to wrap up the 2014 birding year!
